This website hopes to help anyone who is considering whether they have ASD, ADHD or may have been in a partnership with a BPD (borderline personality disorder) partner.
I am not a psychiatrist, but I am a solicitor who has close to 40 years of experience in conflict situations. Every day in my working life, I assist one person or another where one of the problems is ASD, ADHD, BPD or its consequences.
You may be young or old and it may be that you have no idea you have any of these traits, although you may be vaguely aware, and have always been aware that there is something different about you.
The area that I am particularly concerned with in my work is that within these areas, individuals who experience these states of mind, often have significant deficits in social skills. This regularly causes all sorts of difficulties.
One area in my work involves adolescents and young adults, often men, who would like to have a girlfriend or partner but do not have the social skills to be able to bring that about easily and that often causes all sorts of difficulty and misunderstandings and sometimes this results in conflict.
An example that translates into my work. I had a young man with ADHD and learning difficulties come into the office. He had intimately touched a girl he had just started a relationship with. He missed the social indications that she did not want to be touched, which resulted in him coming to me for legal help as this was raised with the police. He soon received a diagnosis after this incident and has acquired the help he needed to improve his understanding of his difficulties. I have these cases beyond number.
That is the purpose of this website, to provide you with the information that you might need or be interested in to further understand yourself and the adjustments that need to be made.
The other area that this website focuses on is the fact that often men with ASD or ADHD find women with BPD, overwhelmingly attractive for a good number of psychological reasons. These relationships are often, despite the lack of social skills, established and maintained, but they can be very tumultuous, to the point of disagreements and conflicts involving the police.
I have therefore included information on why ASD/ADHD individuals find BPD women so attractive, why BPD women can establish and maintain a relationship with such a man and why it can be a dangerous relationship. I speak only as a lawyer, not as a social worker, psychiatrist or psychologist. I am simply providing the information that is generally available, so that you may have greater insight to yourself, your partner, or a situation that has arisen.
